Grant Activities

Project Summary:

The grant aims to reduce environmental and public health risks by building institutional and technical capacity within the Government of Ukraine, particularly the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture. It supports Ukraine's broader recovery and reconstruction agenda by aligning its hazardous waste governance with EU regulatory frameworks.

The grant is structured around two main components:

  • Strengthening Ukraine's hazardous waste policy and regulatory frameworks through technical support and knowledge exchange with Korean partners, including the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco).
  • Capacity building for laboratory personnel, with a specific focus on establishing Ukraine's first specialized capabilities for identifying and managing asbestos-containing materials at the Ukrainian Laboratory of Quality and Safety. This includes training programs, development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and a quality control system for inspections.

This grant is aligned as follows:

  • The grant directly supports the lending operation Hazardous Waste Management and Policy Development Project (P508568) in Ukraine, funded through the Global Environment Facility and the Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction, and Reform Trust Fund.
