Project Summary:
This grant supports Ghana in transitioning toward a sustainable forest-based economy that balances conservation with livelihoods. By strengthening value chains, governance, and nature-based enterprises, the program promotes green jobs and long-term forest resilience.
It will develop analytics and technical tools to promote forest environmental services and sustainable forest value chains. The aim is to create jobs, inform policy, guide investment planning and mobilize finance. It draws on methods pioneered in South Korea.
List of Activities:
Institutional support and knowledge exchange: This is a knowledge exchange with KOFPI for Ghana's forest sector stakeholders. Its output is a summary report and blog.
Strategic design of value chain development for timber products: This covers technical notes, R&D studies and a study of wood processing and forest plantations. It also includes an investment roadmap that identifies job creation potential.
Market opportunities for Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs): This covers an institutional analysis of the NTFP sector, a market access analysis, and work on value chains and certification.
