Bangladesh is developing quickly, but this rapid growth is causing a rapid increase in air pollution and a steep drop in air quality. One of the most harmful pollutants is PM 2.5. The most PM 2.5 in Bangladesh is concentrated in the greater Dhaka area, home to nearly 17% of the country's population. The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) is committed to improving air quality. Several important steps have already been taken. Policy changes and investments to improve how we track air quality and enforce emissions limits are being drafted.
The KGGTF grant, Enhancing Pollution Management in Bangladesh through Green Growth Policies, led by Ana Luisa Gomes, LimaTaisei Matsuki, and Eun Joo Allison Yi, supported the GoB in financing the analytical work, stakeholder consultations and knowledge activities for GoB staff to design several policies including the National Air Quality Plan.
