Grant Activities

Project Summary:

The proposed Project Development Objective is to strengthen the Recipient’s capacity for the implementation of its cadastre at a national level and to increase the number of land rights registered in selected areas. The objective of the proposed grant is to strengthen the existing Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) through technical assistance and additional expertise. The grant activities will contribute to the Development Objective of the parent project in two complementary ways:

1) Building capacity in geographic information management will help increase the quality of the geodata that will be used to support land registration activities and inform on existing land use and restrictions. Increasing the quality of the existing datasets by standardizing them is a necessary precondition to accurately overlay different layers of geographic information.

2) Supporting the Government of Senegal in the development and implementation of their National Spatial Data Infrastructure will contribute to enhance the use, the value and the impact of the land data that will be disseminated on the National Spatial Data Infrastructure platform. This will also help sustain a demand from government agencies, private actors and the population to maintain and update the land data that will be collected during the project.

List of Activities:

  1. Assessment of the NSDI and the national strategy for its development
    1. Assessment of the NSDI and the national strategy for its development
  2. Integration of data into the platform
    1. Development of the platform and integration of the existing data
    2. Integration of the data of a selected actor
  3. Building capacity in geographic data management
    1. Training in geographic data management
    2. Knowledge exchange for capacity building in SDI management
  4. Awareness raising and communication

Outcomes:

Output 1:

  • Assessment Report

Output 2.1:

  • Functional platform
  • 750 datasets uploaded in the platform

Output 2.2:

  • 90% of the existing data is standardized and uploaded
  • Report summarizing lessons learned

Output 3.1:

  • Training material developed for two trainings
  • 60 producers of geographic data trained
  • 20 IT specialists trained

Output 3.2:

  • KGGTF facilitated technical Knowledge Exchange program

Output 4:

  • Dissemination of findings and results through workshops

Outcomes:

The project is expected to lead to improved efficiency and autonomy of government agencies and territorial authorities in managing their geographic information. In addition, increased availability of good quality data for the creation of services and innovation based on geographic information is expected to increase competitiveness.

  1. Improved efficiency:
  • Increased availability of data for sustainable spatial planning
  • Increased capacity of government agencies and local governments to perform spatial analysis for sustainable spatial planning
  • Increased autonomy of government agencies and local governments in managing their data
  • Increased capacity of NSDI managers to maintain the NSDI and provide solutions for improving it
  • Increased use of the platform by national stakeholders
  1. Greater resilience:
  • Increased capacity of national and city governments in identifying pandemic and disaster risk prone areas for the design of preventive measures and emergency response
  1. Increased competitiveness:
  • Increased availability of data for the creation of services and innovation based on geographic information
