On May 11-13, 2026, 11 delegates representing Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), National Irrigation Commission (NIRC), Wami Ruvu Basin Water Board (WRBWB), Tanzania's Ministry of Water, and Tanzania's Ministry of Transport participated in a knowledge exchange to South Korea, on the margins of Korea Green Innovation Days (KGID 2026), where they met with several Korean organizations including:
- Han River Flood Control Centre
- KORAIL
- RainbirdGEO
Discussions spanned four main areas of Korea-Tanzania cooperation including:
- On water and agriculture, talks explored applying Korean technologies — including K-water's real-time monitoring system "CROP" and the K-Academy's capacity building programs — to World Bank-supported irrigation modernization and Tanzania's Early Warning System.
- On climate technology, Tanzania Railways Corporation's AI-based railway safety proposal was highlighted as one of only three shortlisted projects under Korea's K-CTDP program.
- On institutional cooperation, discussions with ICAK focused on developing a joint ODA grant proposal, building on prior experience with NIGT.
- On rail transport, conversations covered KORAIL's engagements in Tanzania, including the Zanzibar Green Mobility proposal, the Pugu Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot, and related logistics.
The knowledge exchange marked a significant step forward in Tanzania-Korea cooperation, laying the groundwork for concrete partnerships across water management, climate technology, institutional development, and rail transport that stand to strengthen Tanzania's infrastructure and resilience in the years ahead.
