The Republic of Korea has been officially selected as the host country for the 2026 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Climate Week, following intense competition among multiple Asian countries. The event will be held in April 2026 in Yeosu, marking a significant milestone that reflects the international communitys recognition of Koreas commitment to climate action and its capacity to translate ambition into implementation. UNFCCC Climate Week is a major annual international gathering convened ahead of the Conference of the Parties (COP), bringing together governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society to discuss pressing climate challenges and accelerate practical solutions. As the designated Asia-Pacific Climate Week, the 2026 event in Korea is expected to attract approximately 1,000 climate experts and policymakers, including senior government officials from the region and the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC.

The 2026 Climate Week will be held in conjunction with Korea’s Green Transition (KGX) International Week, creating a comprehensive international platform that links global climate negotiations with on-the-ground implementation. Through this alignment, Korea aims to move climate discussions beyond policy dialogue toward concrete action, demonstrating how national strategies, industrial transformation, and local-level initiatives can collectively support the goals of the Paris Agreement.

A particular emphasis will be placed on industry participation and local government leadership, with sessions designed to explore practical pathways for decarbonization and to showcase successful subnational carbon-neutral practices. By integrating global best practices with Korea’s own experiences, the event seeks to position KGX not only as a national policy framework but as a transferable model that can inform climate action in other countries.

Through hosting the 2026 UNFCCC Climate Week and KGX International Week, Korea aims to further solidify its standing as a leading partner in global climate governance, reinforcing momentum toward carbon neutrality and contributing to the creation of a shared international vision for sustainable and inclusive green growth.
