Grant Activities

Project Summary:

In the Kathmandu Valley, this initiative strengthens end-to-end water security—from source protection to urban service delivery. The program improves institutions, data, and investment planning to enhance reliability and resilience.

The grant aims to generate evidence to guide government policy and investment decisions on expanding climate-resilient bulk water supply in the Kathmandu Valley. Bulk supply is a key constraint for more than 3 million people.

List of Activities:

Upstream studies for the water investment plan: These update the Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board's 2026–2050 capital investment plan. They cover water availability, demand forecasting, demand-side management and investment prioritization. The output is a consolidated Water Security Planning document, expected February 2027.

Climate-stress testing: This assesses risks to the current bulk water system using a Decision Tree Framework, and evaluates adaptation options. The outputs are a technical report on resilience and a stress-testing model summary note, expected February 2027.

Catalyzing private capital: This explores private sector participation, PPPs and innovative financing. The outputs are a PPP options report and a policy note, expected December 2026.
