Improving Digitalization of Electricity Distribution Utilities

Project Summary:

The grant aims to build the capacity of World Bank staff and client utilities to manage the effects of the energy transition and digitalization on utility business and operations. It supports utilities in assessing their digital maturity. It also helps them pick suitable technologies, such as AMI, ADMS or CMS, to cut technical and commercial losses and improve supply reliability.

By strengthening data systems and digital capabilities, the program lays the foundation for smarter grids and more financially sustainable utilities.

List of Activities:

• Digital maturity assessments: Gap analyses of digital readiness for Kenya Power (KPLC) and Uzbekistan's utility (REN).
• Pilot implementation support: A loss-reduction or reliability pilot in Kenya or Uzbekistan, for example KEPCO's LossPro program.
• Knowledge exchange: Study tours to Korea with KEPCO and workshops to share lessons.
