What happens when the mining stops? In Mpumalanga, South Africa, retired mines once symbolized environmental damage and lost potential. But now, thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration with South Korea and support from the KGGTF, these landscapes are being reimagined as hubs of biodiversity, sustainability, and green jobs.
This short film follows a South African delegation’s eye-opening journey to Korea, where they explored how Korea has successfully turned post-mining scars into models of inclusive, eco-friendly growth. Hosted by the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR), the visit showcased nature-based solutions, community engagement, and green innovation.
