Grant Activities
Project Summary:
The purpose of this grant is to strengthen Samoa’s resilience against climate change through a centralized climate data platform. Specifically, the development will enable real-time data sharing and predictive analytics that contribute to improving data-driven policy decision-making processes in response to adverse climate events.
Samoa is highly vulnerable to climate-related hazards, such as cyclones, storms, floods, and sea level rise. Despite these risks, the country does not have centralized systems for collecting and sharing climate data, which limits its ability to respond effectively. Besides, the absence of AI-based early warning systems further worsens timely and accurate disaster responses in coastal areas.
The grant directly supports the Digital Samoa Project, a lending operation (IPF) of USD 20.5 million. It is also in line with Samoa’s national strategies - “Pathway for the Development of Samoa FY2021/22-FY2025/26” and “Samoa Climate Change Policy 2020” - as well as the World Bank’s Green Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) goals.
