Grant Activities
Project Summary:
The overarching development objective is to enable solar power generation and expand reliable electricity access across Guinea-Bissau. Measurable outcomes include increased renewable energy generation capacity, growth in the number of people with new or improved electricity access, reduced utility expenses per customer, and net greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
It covers two main technical activities:
- Off-Grid Systems Development: This activity focuses on assessing the potential for off-grid electrification in the Bijagos Islands and isolated inland communities. It includes analysis of standalone solar and green mini-grid technologies, cost assessments, and the development of policy recommendations to scale distributed solar solutions.
- Activity 2 — Solar Park Preparation: This activity supports the technical groundwork for two utility-scale solar parks — a 15MW facility in Gabu and a 5MW facility in Cacheu. Work includes site surveys, environmental assessments, variable renewable energy (VRE) integration analysis, and resilient grid infrastructure design.
This grant is aligned as follows:
- The World Bank-approved Solar Energy Scale-Up and Access Project (SESAP) (P174576).
