Grant Activities

Project Summary:

The grant tackles challenges of solid waste management by offering technical support and promoting collaboration between Sri Lanka and Nepal through knowledge exchange and the creation of shared tools, benchmarks, and reference materials. In Sri Lanka, the grant will help the government prepare low-carbon technologies and zero-waste initiatives for investment, while supporting the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) in adopting IT-based performance management systems as a foundation for a comprehensive monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system.

In Nepal, the grant will build on existing technical assistance for institutional arrangements, staffing, and budgeting at the Solid Waste Management Technical Support Center (SWMTSC) to improve coordination and implement the new national and local waste management framework.

Additionally, the grant will leverage partnerships with Korean development organizations to learn from South Korea’s leading practices in waste management. The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), known for its expertise in smart waste management and energy recovery from waste, provides a valuable model for sustainable waste management and resource recovery.
