Grant Activities
Project Summary:
A key purpose of this grant is to improve the livability of Kandy, Sri Lanka, by fostering green urban mobility and smart city planning. The project focuses on re-establishing a better experience for people using public transports via their most important hub of Kandy - the Kandy Multimodal Transport Terminal – more accessible, efficient, and safer.
In the process, strategic recommendations integrated into green urban mobility and smart city planning will be developed. Subsequently, these recommendations will be presented to the Government of Sri Lanka for endorsement, thus being able to be translated into an action plan. The action plan will design financing requirements and mechanisms for implementation, aiming to attract Green Growth investment funding from the World Bank, other development partners, and private capital investment.
The grant also focuses on stakeholder engagement in urban mobility and planning. It will facilitate knowledge exchange events, such as the Korea Green Innovation Days (KGID), and host workshops in dissemination of results and lessons learned with the Colombo Municipal Council. These activities seek to build capacity and foster collaboration among key stakeholders.
