Grant Activities

Project Summary:

This funding aims to foster digital innovation in Liberia’s agriculture sector to enhance productivity, strengthen resilience, and reduce its environmental footprint.

Agriculture plays a critical role in Liberia’s economy, sustaining over 60% of the population and contributing approximately 37% of the country’s GDP. It also offers significant opportunities to reduce poverty and mitigate rural-urban migration. However, the sector has historically underperformed due to capacity to adapt to or mitigate climate variability through innovative solutions. Key challenges include poor digital service in remote areas, insufficient ICT infrastructure, and gaps in policy coordination, and limited digital literacy among rural farmers.

The activity will support two key World Bank operations: Liberia: Rural Economic Transformation Project (P175263) and West Africa Regional Digital Integration Project - Series of Project 2 (WARDIP-SOP2). By aligning these operations, the grant will successfully introduce digital tools in key value chains that raise productivity, market access, and climate resilience for smallholder farmers.
