LH, in collaboration with the World Bank(WB), published a report, "A Story of Urban Development in Korea," introducing the urbanization of Seoul and the development of new towns in Korea. To commemorate the publication, the launch event was held on April 3. The report also introduces regional balanced development to curb overcrowding in the metropolitan area and efforts to revitalize declining areas.
This report is the first joint work by LH and WB to support sustainable growth in countries that want to learn from Korea's urban development know-how and implementation practices.
The main contents of the report are as follows: i) the history of urban development in South Korea, ii) Solutions to the problem of overcrowding in the metropolitan area and regional imbalances that occurred during the rapid economic growth and urbanization after the Korean War, iii) public-led new town development, construction of Innovation Cities and Multifunctional Administrative City, and iv) inclusive urban regeneration policies.
The publication was celebrated both online and offline for the participation of local and international experts in urban development worldwide, commemorating the publication of the report and discussing ways to achieve sustainable urban development.
The World Bank's East Asia-Pacific Regional Director for Urban Development, who participated in the event, said, "Korea's urban development experience will be a valuable resource for developing countries," and added, "The World Bank will continue to work closely with Korea and global partners to build sustainable cities in developing countries.“
