Grant Activities
Project Summary:
The project development objective is to (i) improve competitiveness of leather and wool SMEs in Ulaanbaatar, and (ii) strengthen government capacity for urban environmental management in project areas.

Activity 1: Relocation Analysis Report
Activity 2: Technical Study on Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) for Mongolia
Activity 3: Knowledge Exchange Visit to Korea
Activity 4: Several Workshops on Disseminating Outputs from Activity 1 & 2 in Mongolia
Outcomes:
- The report will help inform the client on firm relocation and better design the “Component 2: SME Relocation and Competitiveness” of the IPF.
- The report will help inform the client on EIP development and better design the “Component 1: Eco-Industrial Park Infrastructure and Governance” of the IPF.
- The KE visit will help clients better understand the benefits of developing an EIP compared to a traditional industrial park, better prepare for SME relocation, and seek further bilateral partnerships with Korean knowledge partners. Key decision makers of the IPF project will benefit from this KE visit.
- The workshops will inform and build the capacity of government officials to better prepare and implement the IPF. More than 100 people will join the workshop.
Collaboration with K-Partners and Others:
- Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH): Agreed to host a delegation for knowledge exchange, to provide advisory support on industrial parks, land remediation, and urban regeneration.
- Korea National Cleaner Production Center (KNCPC) & Gyeonggi Eco-Industrial Development Center: Agreed to host delegation for knowledge exchange, team will explore options for additional technical support on EIP.
- Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI): Agreed to host delegation for knowledge exchange, team will explore options for additional technical support on soil and groundwater remediation.
- Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG): Agreed to host delegation for knowledge exchange, team will explore options for additional technical support on urban regeneration.
- KOICA/Kolon FnC: Exploring ideas of PPP schemes for proposed EIP.
- IFC: IFC will be providing advisory and technical support to MUB on the GIF-funded feasibility study and master plan for the EIP at Emeelt.
- UNIDO: Currently under discussion as implementing partner for MUB.
- Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC): The Bank team has engaged extensively with the MCC on potential areas of collaboration on water/wastewater-related activities.
