The K-water Academy team ran a study tour program to strengthen Uzbekistan’s capacity and support the establishment of the Water Academy for 10 managerial officials from Uzsuvtaminot JSC (UJSC) from June 7th(Wed) to 13th(Tue), 2023.

This study tour program was implemented by World Bank (WB) and funded by the Korea Green Growth Trust Fund (KGGTF) that the Korean Government granted. K-water Academy has designed and organized this program as a consultant for WB.

This study tour was intended to enable UJSC participants to experience Korea’s best practices of water supply and sanitation (WSS) service and workforce capacity building, which consisted of 2 lectures, 7 study visits, and 3 workshops. Therefore, it aimed to help UJSC experts gain knowledge and insight about capacity building and the Water Academy establishment.

The two lectures and the first workshop at K-water Academy addressed Korea's WSS policies and drinking water treatment process management. Moreover, K-water disseminated practical knowledge to the participants through the site visits to K-water Water Distribution Education Center, Water Quality Treatment Pilot Plant, Groundwater Information Center, Local Waterworks Assistance Dept., Water Environmental Safety Department, Asan Wastewater Treatment Plant and Water Reuse Center, and Hwaseong Smart Waterworks. In addition, at the workshops at the Export-Import Bank of Korea (K-EXIM) and Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association (KWWA), the managerial officials had an opportunity to learn about the mechanism of the Korean Government’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund and training and qualification system for WSS workers in Korea.

With the farewell ceremony at a Korean full-course (“Hanjeongsik”) restaurant, the entire program in Korea was successfully completed, and all of the participants returned safely to Uzbekistan. K-water Academy wishes they are all always healthy and happy, and hopes to meet again in the near future.
